Six Sentence Sunday #28

6 Sentence Sunday LogoGood morning, good reader, on this last official Six Sentence Sunday!

Because this is the final official Six Sunday I thought it fitting that I close with a close. Here are the last six sentences of the current chapter in my online serial novel Rochelle’s Briefcase, a modern day mystery/thriller/young adult/whatever-it-turns-out-to-be story.

This is the same scene as last week where Rochelle is in the police station being questioned about the report of her missing neighbour the previous day. As Rochelle feared during the entire interview, the police officer finally asks the dreaded question.

He paused to look down at the briefcase Rochelle had with her. “Activities that make this person very uncomfortable.” His eyes locked on hers. Rochelle was wide-eyed and frozen.
Tell me, Ms. Summers. What is in that briefcase?”

6 Sentence Sunday LogoGood morning!

With only one more Sunday on which to share six sentences, I thought I’d pop out something different. This time I’m presenting six from the current chapter in my online serial novel Rochelle’s Briefcase, a modern day mystery/thriller/young adult/whatever-it-turns-out-to-be story. In this scene Rochelle is in the police station about to be questioned about the report of her missing neighbour the previous day. As instructed by some unknown but influential people, she has the briefcase with her.

The briefcase was again the elephant in the room and Rochelle was acutely aware that the policeman was dying to ask about it but perhaps couldn’t find a reason to justify the question. Instead he got straight to the point.
“Okay, so yesterday afternoon, you and your friend… Tina Cadelano, reported your neighbour, Ruby, missing, correct?”
“That’s right.”
“And you believed she was kidnapped but refused to provide information on why you believed this to be true?”
Rochelle hesitated while holding his gaze.

Six Sentence Sunday #26

6 Sentence Sunday LogoGood morning! It’s now the 2nd Sunday of 2013 and I finally remembered that NaNo was last year.

Here is yet another 6 from my NaNoWriMo novel from 2012, The Rogue, wholly raw and unedited. Another random scene in which I introduce Abby’s reckless young sister. Remember Abby? She’s married to the astronomer who discovers the Rogue.

Judy was 25 when when first heard about the Rogue. And it wasn’t via Abby. Everyone knows a geek or a conspiracy theorist and if they don’t, they’re not too far down the chain of acquaintances. Word does spread quickly especially if it’s potentially bad news. She didn’t tell anyone but she felt vindicated in her belief of being here for a good time and not a long time. She felt that her time partying with the devil and his friends was well justified.

6 Sentence Sunday LogoGood morning!

Here is yet another 6 from my NaNoWriMo novel from this year, The Rogue, wholly raw and unedited. This is a new scene not yet featured on 6SS and as I read it back I realise it’s a good example of the bad practice of changing POV within a paragraph in a 3rd person narrative. I remember starting this with the intention of writing from Travis’s point of view and it quickly changed to that of the already seated passenger. Hmm. Work is needed. See what you think.

Travis boarded the train with his pals and the six of them immediately took over a booth area of the train where a man was already sitting against the window. The boys were so loud other passengers immediately felt uncomfortable in their presence. The man beside the window ignored them and continued gazing out the window at whatever could prevent him making eye contact with the obnoxious louts who had just invaded his personal space. He wasn’t dressed up today. In fact he was incognito, doing an exercise to prove a point. He wanted to travel the city’s public transport system as a relatively poor man, a sharp contrast to his true lifestyle..

Six Sentence Sunday #24

6 Sentence Sunday LogoGood morning!

Here is yet another 6 from my NaNoWriMo novel from this year, The Rogue, wholly raw and unedited. This continues from last week when Abby went for her jog up the hill and admired the local astronomical scenes.

She reflected on how rarely she bothered to appreciate the things her beloved husband studied day in, day out. The moon always looked so big when it was down low near the horizon. Bruce could probably explain why that is but at the moment she didn’t care. It was just beautiful; the white orb floating in the pale blue sky with the blazing yellow sun coming up on the opposite horizon. She wondered about the planets. She looked for Venus knowing it was a morning star at the moment and likely visible even after sunrise.

6 Sentence Sunday LogoGood morning!

Here is yet another 6 from my NaNoWriMo novel from this year, The Rogue, wholly raw and unedited. This week I again went to a random page but this time I did remember actually writing it! Here we have Abby, the wife of the dedicated astronomer, up early one morning knowing her husband had a tough shift the previous night.

She ran up the hill beside the unsealed road, to the crest where she was able to see the sun rising. Pausing briefly to catch her breath, she looked back towards home and gasped at the sight of the huge glowing full moon setting in the west. What a lovely sight! She thought to herself that she should jog the hill more often. No more being lazy by running on the river flats. Yes, the river was pretty, but the views from these hills!

Rochelle’s Briefcase Chapter 8 Is Up

Hi Story Time fans!

NaNoWriMo seemed to make me lose momentum on Rochelle’s Briefcase. I seem to blame a lot of my apparent slackness on NaNoWriMo. Meh.

Anyway, I’ve finally got Chapter 8 up for my serial novel, Rochelle’s Briefcase on Story Time after readers voted on the question of Who was calling Rochelle on the phone. The final vote was for Ruby, despite the fact that she had apparently been kidnapped.

I hope you enjoy the latest episode and don’t forget to vote on what happens in Chapter nine. If you need to recap n what’s been going on there other chapters can be found here.

Cheers! 🙂

Six Sentence Sunday #22

6 Sentence Sunday LogoGood morning. Hoping today offers an improvement on yesterday.

Here is yet another 6 from my NaNoWriMo novel from this year, The Rogue, wholly raw and unedited. This week I went to a random page and struggled to remember actually writing this bit. At this point in the writing I was stuck for inspiration so I introduced an alcoholic stripper with a nothing-to-lose attitude. I this scene she gains a regular client.

She loved the attention. This particular man Judy knew nothing about apart from his consistently generous tipping habit. Over several weeks and months he gradually revealed more about himself. He started by hinting he was a doctor by pointing out one or two of Judy’s ailments without her even mentioning them. He said she should go easy on the alcohol because it would kill her eventually. She wondered if he even knew about the Rogue.

Six Sentence Sunday #21

6 Sentence Sunday LogoG’day again! I hope you”re all enjoying your Sunday so far.

Once again I’m taking 6 from my NaNoWriMo novel from this year, The Rogue, wholly raw and unedited. I this “scene” (I use the term loosely for this draft!), Some local church goers have just heard rumours about the approaching rogue planet.

Father Dominic was very concerned upon hearing the rumours. One of his parishioners, David Smythe, although a firm believer, was interested in the more scientific aspects of the heavens, owned his own rather powerful telescope. It was probably the largest amateur telescope in the USA and it could see some of the faintest celestial objects visible from the ground. When he first heard about the Rogue he thought he should be able to see it with his telescope but was disappointed. He felt that if the Spitzer Infra-red space telescope could see it, his telescope should be able to see it too.
Unfortunately for Mr Smythe, he could not see the rumoured Rogue planet, but this did not deter him from spreading false information about it.
